Estimation Question Step-2: Solution

i) Head to be rectangular

Now, assuming that 80% of the scalp is covered by hair.

We have,

80% of 150 sq. cm = 120 sq. cm

Assuming, the thickness of the hair to be 1 mm or 0.1 cm

So, for total no. of hairs on scalp

= 120/0.1 = 1200 hairs

ii) Head to be curved

Now, assuming that 80% of the scalp is covered by hair.

We have,

80% of 157 sq. cm = 125.6 sq. cm

Assuming, the thickness of the hair to be 1 mm or 0.1 cm

So, for total no. of hairs on scalp

= 126/0.1 = 1260 hairs
